Catullus’ poetry was influenced by the innovative poetry of the Hellenistic Age, especially that of Callimachus and the Alexandrian school, which propagated a new style of poetry, known as “neoteric”, which deliberately turned away from the classical epic poetry in the tradition of Homer, focusing instead on small-scale personal themes using very careful and artistically composed language. Catullus' Carmen 16, sometimes referred to by its first line, "Paedicabo ego vos et irrumabo," is only of several poems addressed to two men: Marcus Furius Bibaculus (who had an affair with Catullus, full name Gaius Valerius Catullus (84-54 BC), Roman poet, often considered the greatest writer of Latin lyric verse. Catullus, vars poetiska förebilder var äldre grekiska diktare som Kallimachos (c:a 305 – c:a 240 f. Catullus wrote his poems and epigrams of personal life during the late Roman Republic, and they survive in an anthology of more than a hundred items. Many are caustic, satirical, and erotic, often lampooning well-known characters of the day including Julius Caesar and his friends. Others are tender, solemn, and graceful.
